REVOLUTIONARY NEW TOTAL KNEE DESIGN
A new total knee prosthesis promises to change our perception of replacement surgery altogether. This new
design incorporates a mobile bearing insert allowing for freedom of motion and self-alignment. Hence the knee has the ability of adjusting itself during walking. The prosthesis is made of high grade Titanium alloy which is extremely rigid and a great deal lighter than standard total knee replacements. Its surface is coated with gold coloured Titanium-Nitride, which provides significant benefits by reducing friction and wear. Subsequently ‘wearing-out’ of the prosthesis has become a story of the past. This new knee is currently not available in Europe, although the regulatory agency in Brussels has approved its safety by providing it with ‘CE’ marking. Oliver Schindler is currently in negotiations with the American company and the chief designer to create a distribution network in the UK. It is likely to be available later in 2008.
